August Riesterer
1st Generation
Born in southern Germany, August worked in a bakery in his hometown growing up. Looking for a better life, he left for America in 1929. Together, with his wife Wally from Bavaria, Germany they opened Riesterer’s Bakery in West Hempstead, NY in October 1931.
Charles Riesterer
2nd Generation
Born in West Hempstead, NY, Charles worked in his father’s bakery growing up. He is a graduate of the Laubert School of Cake Decorating in NYC. Past President of the NYS Bakers’ Association in 1985 and Retail Bakers of America Association in 2000. Charles is also an accomplished Certified Master Baker of the Culinary Institute of America.
Karl Riesterer
3rd Generation
Born in West Hempstead, NY, Karl as well, worked in his grandfather and father’s bake shop all his life. Graduate and Valedictorian of his class at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY in 1990. Karl was also awarded one of Long Island’s 40 Rising Stars under the age of 40 in 2000. Together with his wife Jennifer and their children, they continue the family baking tradition.
Donna Riesterer-Pellegrino
3rd Generation
Born in West Hempstead, NY, Donna also worked her younger years under her father and grandfather as well as graduated the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY in 1989. Donna’s husband Frank also is active in the day to day operations of the family business.
